My Take
Hiroyoshi Tenzan — born Hiroyoshi Yamamoto on 23 March 1971 in Kyoto — has spent his career inside New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and the line in his record I keep coming back to is the tag one. With Satoshi Kojima, as the team fans call Tenkoji, he won All Japan's World's Strongest Tag Determination League and New Japan's G1 Tag League in 2008, making them the only team to have taken both. Crossing between rival promotions and winning each one's marquee tag tournament is not a footnote; it is a small piece of wrestling history that could not be repeated casually. What strikes me about Tenzan is the shape of the career rather than any single title. He was never the promotion's designated golden boy. He was the man who kept showing up, decade after decade, until his presence itself became part of what New Japan meant. Longevity is an underrated form of greatness, and he is a case study in it.
