My Take
Ian Blair commands my respect as someone who rose to the very top of British policing. Born in Chester in 1953 and Harvard-educated, he served as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police from 2005 to 2008, having joined in 1974 on a graduate scheme and put in his years on London's streets first. The honors he accumulated, the King's Police Medal and a knighthood among them, mark a serious career. What interests me most is the weight of that role: leading a force through some of the hardest security decisions imaginable. I can only admire anyone willing to shoulder that kind of pressure for public safety.
