Jake E. Lee

Jake E. Lee is, to me, a guitarist's guitarist. Born Jakey Lou Williams in Virginia, he hit his peak fronting the fretwork for Ozzy Osbourne in the 1980s, and what I love is the elegance in his playing - a classical sensibility lurking beneath the heavy-metal swagger. His later work with Badlands showed a bluesier soul, and his 2013 return with Red Dragon Cartel, charting at number 69, proved he never really faded. He's not the type to chase the spotlight, but one listen tells you he's the real thing. I have a deep fondness for understated craftsmen like him.
