My Take
Jesse Andrews has the kind of range that earns my admiration outright. A Harvard graduate from Pittsburgh, he writes novels, pens screenplays, directs, and even makes music. He authored both the book and film of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and wrote the screenplay for Pixar's Luca. What wins me over is his gift for holding humor and heartbreak in the same hand; he is clever, yes, but more importantly he understands the small movements of the human heart. Writers who can do that, who balance wit with real feeling, are the ones I happily keep following.
