My Take

Jorge Torres Nilo, nicknamed Pechu, plays my favourite kind of thankless role: the left-back. Forever bombing forward then scrambling back, locked in endless duels with opposing wingers, he is the engine that never stops. Coming from Tijuana, right on the US border, he was shaped by a tough environment, and I cannot help imagining that bred the resilience defenders need. He keeps his social media active too, which suggests he values his bond with fans even after hanging up his boots. Born in 1988, he was one of the unsung men holding up a strong era of Mexican football, and I quietly applaud him.
