My Take
Katie Holmes interests me precisely because she refused to stay the ingenue. Dawson's Creek could have trapped her in eternal adolescence, and a famously turbulent stretch of tabloid life could have swallowed her entirely. Instead, the Toledo-born actress quietly rebuilt herself — directing, producing, choosing stage work and smaller films over easy paydays. I find that kind of low-volume persistence more impressive than any single blockbuster. She is proof that a career can be measured not in peaks but in the dignity of its course corrections, and I suspect her best work behind the camera is still ahead of her.
