Masayuki Mori

Masayuki Mori had one of the most useful faces in Japanese cinema: handsome, but with something withheld behind it. Born in Sapporo in 1911, the son of the novelist Takeo Arishima, he carried a literary inheritance into a medium that was still proving itself, and the great directors of the golden age all wanted him. Kurosawa cast him in Rashomon, The Idiot and The Bad Sleep Well. Mizoguchi used him in Ugetsu. Naruse put him at the center of Floating Clouds.
