My Take
What strikes me about Michel Piccoli is the sheer durability of his artistry: seven decades of work, with top acting honors at Cannes, Berlin, and beyond. He is often filed under "great character actor," but I think that undersells him. Piccoli had the rare ability to anchor a film whether he was the lead or in support, bringing a worldly gravity and a sly sensuality that few could match. He moved fluidly across French, German, and Italian cinema, treating borders as no obstacle. For me he embodies a kind of European cinematic intelligence that feels increasingly scarce today.
