Mikiya Tanaka

Mikiya Tanaka is 166 cm tall and plays infield in Japan's top professional league, which tells you most of what you need to know about how he got there. Born in November 2000 in Aikawa, Kanagawa, he came up through Tokai University Sugao high school and then Asia University, a program with a long reputation for drilling defence, before joining the Chunichi Dragons. Players his size do not survive on power. They survive on the first step, the clean transfer, the throw that arrives half a beat early. At Asia University he had his colon removed after a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, fought his way back, and was drafted by Chunichi in the sixth round in 2022. If you want to know what he actually offers, don't read the batting line, watch him between first and second base.
