Nuri Bilge Ceylan

Ceylan is, for me, the towering figure of Turkish cinema. The Istanbul-born, Boğaziçi-educated director won the Grand Prix at Cannes twice, took Best Director, and finally claimed the Palme d'Or for Winter Sleep.
