My Take

Peter Sagal is my favorite kind of smart person: Harvard-educated but allergic to taking himself too seriously. As the long-running host of NPR's comedy quiz show, he turns sharp intellect into easy, generous laughter, which is far harder than it sounds. The fact that he is also a screenwriter, podcaster, and made a thoughtful PBS series about the Constitution tells me his curiosity runs deeper than the gags. I find that blend of erudition and warmth genuinely rare. He is proof that being clever and being kind to your audience are not mutually exclusive.
