Fieldy

Fieldy is one of those musicians who genuinely invented something — that percussive, clicky, almost slap-and-mute bass tone he cooked up with Korn in the mid-90s became the sonic DNA of an entire genre. Nu metal owes him a massive debt that doesn't always get acknowledged. From "Blind" to "Freak on a Leash" to "Here to Stay," his groove sat right in the pocket with Jonathan Davis's vocals and created some of the most viscerally satisfying rock music of that era. He's a Bakersfield kid who helped shape how a generation heard heaviness, and that's no small thing. His decision to step back from Korn touring in 2021 for personal and spiritual reasons was a genuinely bold move, and I respect that he chose integrity over inertia. Whatever comes next for him, his legacy with those early Korn records is locked in.
