My Take

Ross Martin is one of those craftsman actors I genuinely treasure. Born Martin Rosenblatt in Poland and educated at City College of New York, he worked across radio, voice, stage, film, and television, the mark of a true journeyman. His Artemus Gordon on The Wild Wild West, all disguises and quick-change wizardry, only works because of the vocal range he honed in radio. He passed in 1981, but that chameleon versatility still lands for me. I'll always prefer performers who can disappear into a dozen faces over those who only play themselves.
