My Take

For anyone who grew up on wrestling, Stan Hansen is the archetypal wild man, and I love him for it. A hulking Texan out of Knox City and West Texas A&M, he made the Western Lariat into a sound the whole of Japan reacted to. The detail I find oddly endearing is that his famously stiff, bruising style grew partly from poor eyesight, which lends a strange authenticity to the chaos. The cowboy hat, leather vest and bullrope created a persona that no one has truly replicated. His Hall of Fame inductions feel like a formality. I still get a jolt from his honest, brawling power.
