Tam Nakano

Tam Nakano — born Yuria Tauchi in Aichi Prefecture in 1988 — did something that sounds simple on paper and is nearly impossible in practice: she started as an idol with Actwres girl'Z in 2015 and was taking bumps as a professional wrestler by the following year. Idols are trained to be adored from a safe distance. Wrestlers are trained to be hit. Very few people can hold both instincts in the same body. She is best remembered from World Wonder Ring Stardom, where she led Cosmic Angels, and what made her work land for me was never the move set. It was the emotional volume. Some wrestlers tell you a story with their offense; Nakano told it with her face, and the crowd would be halfway to tears before anything decisive happened. That is a rarer skill than any high-flying spot. She is retired now, which is a strange word to attach to someone whose whole appeal was refusing to hold anything back. I'm glad the run happened.
