My Take

Taylor Toth earns my admiration as a pairs man, one of the most underappreciated roles in sport. Partnering Felicia Zhang from 2009 to 2011, he helped win the U.S. junior title in 2010 and finished ninth at the World Junior Championships. Pairs skating asks the man to lift, support and disappear so his partner shines, and that selfless craft rarely gets the credit it deserves. To reach the top of the junior ranks in such a short window speaks to real explosiveness and discipline. I would rather celebrate the quiet labor under the spotlight than the spotlight itself, and Toth embodies exactly that.
