My Take
Tom Hanks holds a strange place in my pantheon: he is so reliably excellent that people forget how rare he is. Back-to-back Oscars in 1994 and 1995 would headline anyone else's career, yet for Hanks it is almost a footnote to a deeper achievement, becoming the screen embodiment of ordinary decency. He makes goodness dramatically interesting, which is far harder than playing villains.
