My Take

He Pingping is one of those people who genuinely makes you stop and think about what it means to leave a mark on the world. Standing just 74 centimeters tall, he was certified by Guinness World Records as the world's shortest mobile man — and rather than retreat from that distinction, he embraced it with a warmth and openness that won him fans across the globe. Born in Huade County, Inner Mongolia, in 1988, he traveled internationally, appeared on television programs, and became a kind of living ambassador for the idea that size has nothing to do with spirit. He passed away in March 2010 at just 21 years old, but in his brief life he packed in more genuine human connection than most people manage in decades.
