Keisha Castle-Hughes

Keisha Castle-Hughes announced herself to the world at thirteen with Whale Rider, earning an Oscar nomination and becoming one of the youngest ever nominated for Best Actress. That kind of debut could easily have defined and trapped her, yet what impresses me is her refusal to be a one-note child prodigy. From playing the Virgin Mary in The Nativity Story to building a steady adult career, she has kept evolving. There is a quiet gravity to her screen presence, an old-soul quality that was striking even as a kid. I find her trajectory genuinely admirable and quietly inspiring.
