My Take
Lance Henriksen is one of those actors whose mere presence sharpens a film. I will forever associate him with Bishop in Aliens; that calm, unreadable intensity is genuinely his own. A New Yorker born in 1940, he is a true veteran of science fiction and horror, with a Saturn Award and the haunting Frank Black of Millennium to his name. What fascinates me most, though, is that this purveyor of menacing roles is also a serious painter. There is an artist's soul tucked behind all those eerie performances, and that contradiction gives his work a depth I find quietly compelling.
