Rōki Sasaki

Roki Sasaki, the so-called Monster of the Reiwa Era, is the kind of pitcher who makes you rub your eyes. The perfect game with nineteen strikeouts, thirteen of them consecutive, reads like fiction rather than a box score. What grips me is the trajectory: from a high school in rural Iwate to thrilling Japan with the Marines, then crossing to the Dodgers while still young to share a clubhouse with Ohtani. A fastball past 160 km/h and a splitter that vanishes give him a video-game arsenal. With his ceiling still unknown, he is one of the most exciting arms in the game.
