Shin'ya Hasegawa

Shinya Hasegawa, born in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, in 2002, came out of Tsuruga Kehi High School, joined the Saitama Seibu Lions as a developmental pick in the 2020 draft, earned a place on the main roster, and debuted in 2022. Professional baseball in Japan is a brutal sorting machine, and simply holding a roster spot as an outfielder in your early twenties means you have already outlasted an enormous number of people who were also the best player in their town. Whether he becomes a fixture or a footnote is genuinely undecided, which is more than can be said for most of the names here. I would rather check back in ten years than pretend I know how it ends.
