My Take
I'll be honest, Taketoshi Gotoh wasn't a name I instantly placed, but once I dug in I clocked the pedigree right away. Shizuoka kid, born in 1980, who went the absolute blue-chip baseball route: Yokohama High School, one of the most legendary baseball factories in Japan, then on to Hosei University. That's not a path you stumble into, that's years of early mornings, dirt-stained uniforms, and grinding through a brutally competitive system. He's listed at 176cm, which isn't towering by athlete standards, so I picture a guy who leaned on craft, smarts, and sheer stubbornness rather than raw size. I don't have flashy headline stories to lean on here, but people who survive that pressure-cooker world usually carry a quiet, sturdy kind of toughness. I bet he had a great competitor's face out there on the diamond.
