Theresa Russell

What I admire about Theresa Russell is her refusal to coast on her looks. With over fifty films and a long partnership with director Nicolas Roeg, she repeatedly chose brooding, damaged characters over easy stardom. That San Diego model could have played it safe, but instead she spent four decades digging into the uncomfortable corners of human psychology. I find that kind of artistic stubbornness genuinely compelling. She belongs to a rare breed of performer who valued expression over popularity, and her body of work rewards anyone willing to look past the mainstream and into the experimental.
