Toru Yamashita

What draws me to Toru isn't the spotlight but the architecture behind it. As the guitarist and leader of ONE OK ROCK, he carries the dual burden of writing the music and steering the band, and that quiet authority is rare. I find his early detour through a hip-hop dance crew telling; musicians who arrive at rock by a roundabout path often bring a wider rhythmic vocabulary than the purists. Born in Osaka, he strikes me as the kind of craftsman who would rather perfect the framework than chase the applause. I respect builders like him far more than frontmen who only shine.
