My Take

What fascinates me about Watkin Tudor Jones is that Ninja, his most famous self, was arguably his fourth or fifth attempt at an artistic identity. Max Normal, The Constructus Corporation, years spent building and burning down personas before Die Antwoord detonated worldwide when he was already in his mid-thirties. I read that as creative stubbornness of the highest order: a refusal to accept that the world had no slot for what he wanted to make. The zef aesthetic is deliberately abrasive and genuinely polarizing, and I do not love everything around the project, but as a study in self-invention, few careers are more instructive.
