My Take
Xavier Suarez is a quietly significant figure in American urban politics, the first Cuban-born mayor of Miami in a city defined by its exiles. I find his persistence the most telling thing about him: multiple mayoral runs across decades, victories and defeats alike, right up to a 2025 campaign. That refusal to retire from public life can read as stubbornness or as genuine devotion to a city he helped shape. I tend to credit the latter. Politicians who keep returning to the same community, win or lose, usually believe in the place more than the office.
