My Take

As a fan, I cannot help rooting for Yuki Tsunoda. Born in Sagamihara, raised in Tokyo, karting from age nine and into Formula One by 2021, he carries the weight of being Japan's standard-bearer in the sport's top tier. At 161 cm he is tiny next to most of the grid, yet nothing about his driving or his blunt, often hilarious team radio is small. There is a working-class grit to him that makes him easy to like. Reaching reserve status at Red Bull and Racing Bulls shows resilience. I want to see him keep scrapping and racing on his own loud, fearless terms.
