Alperen Şengün

Alperen Şengün is genuinely one of the most exciting young big men in the NBA right now, and I say that as someone who's watched a lot of centers come and go. This kid from Giresun — a small coastal town on Turkey's Black Sea — got drafted 16th overall in 2021 at just 19 years old and was traded to the Houston Rockets, and he has been outplaying that draft slot ever since. What gets me is the post game: it feels almost anachronistic in a league that's gone so perimeter-heavy, yet Şengün makes it work with footwork and creativity that reminds you why the traditional big-man skill set never truly dies. He's not just a scorer either — his passing out of the post is legitimately special. Houston made a smart bet on him long-term, and watching him grow into a legitimate star feels like one of the better ongoing stories in the league heading into the mid-2020s.
