David Patrick Kelly

Say David Patrick Kelly to me and I instantly hear Luther clinking those bottles in The Warriors, one of cinema's most indelible little villains. What I admire, though, is the range hiding behind that typecast menace: a Detroit kid who became an actor, musician, and lyricist working across film, theatre, and stage well past seventy. He's the kind of character player who sharpens every scene he touches without ever needing top billing. I have a soft spot for that breed of durable craftsman. He proves a single unforgettable role can anchor an entire, quietly impressive career.
