Frankie J

Frankie J interests me as a true border artist. Born in Tijuana, raised in San Diego, he grew up listening to both traditional Latin music and American urban music. Rising through freestyle as Frankie Boy and the Kumbia Kings before claiming his own name, he bridged Latin pop and smooth R&B at a moment when crossover singers were reshaping American radio. I have a soft spot for performers who climb up the hard, unglamorous way, because their voices carry lived experience. Frankie Js sound is warm, romantic and quietly resilient, and that authenticity is exactly why his songs still land.
