My Take
Cusick will always be Desmond to me, and that is high praise. His Lost performance, equal parts tenderness and torment, earned a deserved Emmy nod and gave the series some of its most emotionally resonant moments. What intrigues me is his unusual heritage, Peruvian-born and Scottish-raised, which seems to lend his work a distinctive gravity. Beyond Lost he has played Jesus, navigated Scandal and The 100, and even moved into directing. He is the sort of actor who trades flash for depth, and I find that restraint quietly magnetic. A character actor's soul in a leading man's frame.
