My Take

Lin Gaoyuan is one of those table tennis players whose talent has always been obvious to fans even when the very top of the Chinese team is impossibly crowded. The Shenzhen-born lefty has a heavy, aggressive style I really enjoy watching, and his Asian Cup title in 2017 plus World Team Championship golds in 2018 and 2022 are no small feats. Competing inside China's table tennis machine means even world-class players can get overshadowed, which is exactly why I appreciate him. Being good enough to win team gold for that program tells you everything about the level he plays at.
