My Take
I have a soft spot for table tennis players who refuse to back off the table, and Miu Hirano is exactly that breed. Born in 2000 in Numazu, Shizuoka, she basically grew up with a paddle in hand, and by her mid-teens she was already rattling the sport's biggest names, famously breaking through at the 2017 Asian Championships when she was barely seventeen. What gets me is the contrast: she's only 158 cm and looks almost delicate, but she plants herself right at the edge and goes punch-for-punch with people who hit way harder. That fearless forehand-and-block game takes nerve most players never find. Then the match ends and she flashes this completely unguarded smile, and you remember she's still young. I genuinely admire how she helped drag Japanese women's table tennis up to world-beating level.
