My Take

David Attenborough is, in my opinion, the greatest broadcaster who ever lived, and I do not say that lightly. A century old as of 2026, he has narrated the natural world for more than seventy years without ever sounding jaded. What strikes me is the tone: never preachy, never condescending, always that of a man genuinely delighted by a bird of paradise or a deep-sea creature. He turned wonder into a public service. The medals and prizes — the Kalinga Prize, the CBE and the rest — feel almost beside the point. Generations learned to love the planet through his voice, and I doubt anyone will ever replace him.

Overview

Sir David Frederick Attenborough ( AT-ən-bər-ə; born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster, natural historian, and writer. His presenting career began as host of Zoo Quest in 1954, and has spanned seven decades; it includes the nine documentary series forming The Life Collection, Natural World, Wildlife on One, the Planet Earth franchise, The Blue Planet and Frozen Planet.
