Zach McGowan

McGowan is one of those actors I value precisely because he rarely takes the lead. Give him a pirate, a sociopath, or a cold-eyed enforcer, and he brings a coiled menace that elevates everything around him. From Black Sails to The Boys to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he keeps finding roles that need exactly that edge. A Carleton College graduate from New York with stage roots and voice work to boot, he strikes me as a craftsman more interested in the work than the spotlight. That quiet reliability is underrated, and I think it is why directors keep calling him back.
