My Take

Lara Raj feels like a genuinely global pop product, and I mean that as a compliment. Coming out of Stamford, training at NYC's LaGuardia, and then surviving a televised audition to land in Katseye, a multinational group engineered by Hybe and Geffen, she sits at the exact intersection where K-pop method meets American sensibility. Born in 2005, she is barely getting started, and I find her Indian-American background a refreshing presence in a space that badly needs more of it. I am curious whether she can carve out an identity distinct from the group's machinery. My instinct says she will.
