Shinya Aoki is one of my favorites to write about. A Waseda University graduate who became a submission specialist is already a fascinating contradiction of brain and brawl. He moves fluidly between mixed martial arts in ONE Championship, judo, and professional wrestling in DDT, where he held the Extreme title three times. His ground game has a genuine artistry to it, and his blunt, outspoken personality off the mat divides fans, but I am firmly on his side. He is a man of conviction who takes on the world with nothing but his own body, and that conviction is magnetic.
