Kōtarō Kiyooka

Kōtarō Kiyooka catches my attention because of how far a kid from Kochi has already come — he started wrestling at the Kochi Club and won Olympic gold in the 65 kg class in Paris in 2024. Born in 2001, he's barely in his mid-twenties, and there's something genuinely refreshing about an Olympic champion who still lines up at national championships and keeps winning them. Kochi itself feels fitting — it's rugged, coastal, the kind of place that raised Sakamoto Ryōma, and I can totally picture that salt-air grit shaping someone who chooses to compete with their body for the love of the sport. Quietly rooting for him.
