Moyuka Uchijima

There's something quietly thrilling about watching Moyuka Uchijima — she doesn't announce herself with a lot of fanfare, she just keeps showing up and winning matches that, on paper, she probably wasn't supposed to win. Born in 2001, she's part of a generation of Japanese women's tennis that has started to actually matter on the global stage, not just fill out first-round draw slots. At 174cm she has the frame to grind from the baseline, and that's exactly her game: patient, physical, harder to put away than she looks. Breaking into the world's top 100 is no footnote — most pros never get there — and she did it while still in her early twenties. I'm genuinely curious where her ceiling is, because she doesn't strike me as someone who's already playing her best tennis.
